1500 W peak pulse — what it buys the board
The STMicroelectronics SM15T68A is a unidirectional Zener TVS diode from the SM15T, TRANSIL™ series, rated for 1500 W peak pulse power (10/1000 µs waveform). That 1.5 kW rating means it can absorb a substantial surge — enough to protect a 48 V or 58 V rail in industrial power supplies, telecom line cards, or automotive load-dump events — without the part itself failing. The minimum breakdown voltage of 64.6 V and maximum clamping of 121 V at 83 A peak pulse current define the protection window: the circuit sees no more than 121 V during the transient, which is the number the downstream MOSFET or DC-DC converter's Vds rating must clear.
No power line protection — it is a unidirectional clamp for signal or DC rail transients, not an AC mains protector.
