The STMicroelectronics SM15T30AY is a unidirectional Zener-based transient voltage suppressor (TVS) diode from the SM15TY series, built to clamp fast overvoltage spikes on a 25.6V DC rail. Its 1500W peak pulse power rating (10/1000µs waveform) means it can absorb a substantial surge — think load-dump or inductive kickback in an automotive 24V system — before the protected circuitry sees more than 53.5V. The part is AEC-Q101 qualified, so it's screened for the thermal and mechanical stress of under-hood or chassis-mounted electronics.
1500W peak pulse — what it buys you
The 1500W rating (1.5kW) is the peak pulse power dissipation for an 8/20µs current waveform. In practice, that means the SM15T30AY can handle a 187A pulse for a few microseconds without failing. For a 24V automotive bus, this covers most ISO 7637-2 pulse 5a (load dump) scenarios, provided the source impedance limits the energy. The clamping voltage of 53.5V at that current gives the downstream regulator or ECU input enough headroom to survive without secondary protection.
