1500W automotive-grade transient suppressor — still in active production
The STMicroelectronics SM15T12CAY is a single-channel bidirectional Zener TVS diode from the SM15TY TRANSIL™ series, qualified to AEC-Q101 for automotive applications. It delivers 1500W peak pulse power (10/1000µs waveform) with a reverse standoff voltage of 10.2V and clamping at 21.7V at the peak pulse current of 461A (8/20µs).
Bidirectional protection — one part for both polarities
With a single bidirectional channel, the SM15T12CAY clamps transients of either polarity using one device. This simplifies the BOM for AC-coupled signal lines, bipolar power rails, or any circuit where the surge can swing positive or negative relative to ground. No need to series two unidirectional diodes — the bidirectional Zener structure handles both halves of the waveform in a single DO-214AB footprint.
AEC-Q101 qualification and active lifecycle
Its AEC-Q101 qualification means it has passed the automotive-grade stress tests (high-temperature reverse bias, temperature cycling, humidity) required for OEM production programs. For MRO and spare-parts storerooms, this part is a safe long-term stock-keeping choice: no imminent obsolescence, and the DO-214AB package is a widely used industry standard for 1500W TVS diodes.
