16 Kbit I²C EEPROM — what it stores and where it fits
The STMicroelectronics M24C16-FMN6TP is a 16 Kbit serial EEPROM organized as 2K x 8 bits, accessed over an I²C bus at up to 400 kHz. It stores calibration constants, configuration profiles, serial numbers, or small data logs that must survive power loss.
Supply voltage and bus compatibility
The 1.7 V minimum supply means this EEPROM works with 1.8 V logic families and low-voltage MCUs, while the 5.5 V maximum keeps it compatible with 5 V-tolerant I²C buses. No level shifter is needed when the bus voltage matches the supply rail. The 400 kHz clock rate is the standard Fast Mode I²C speed, supported by virtually all modern MCU I²C peripherals.
Write timing and endurance
For a 16 Kbit device, page writes (typically 16 bytes) reduce the total programming time compared to byte-by-byte writes. The non-volatile storage retains data for the rated endurance and retention period — no battery backup needed.
