2 Kbit I²C EEPROM — sizing the non-volatile store
The STMicroelectronics M24C02-RDW6TP is a 2 Kbit serial EEPROM organized as 256 x 8 bits, communicating over an I²C bus at up to 400 kHz. It stores calibration constants, configuration parameters, or small logs in industrial control, telecom, and consumer equipment where non-volatile retention is required across power cycles.
At 400 kHz I²C, each clock cycle is 2.5 µs, so the access time is well inside the bus timing budget. The 5 ms write cycle time for a page or byte write is the real throughput limit — typical for this density class. If your application does frequent logging, the 2 Kbit size and page-write granularity (16 bytes per page) define the practical write rate.
8-TSSOP package — rework and footprint
The 8-TSSOP (4.40 mm body width) has a 0.65 mm lead pitch — hand-solderable with a fine tip and magnification. The package is low-profile (1.2 mm max height), so it fits under shielding cans or in tight enclosures. No exposed pad, so rework is straightforward: hot air at 300°C for 20 seconds lifts it cleanly, and the pads are robust enough for a couple of rework cycles without lifting.
