Adjustable 1.5 A regulator — TO-220 package
The output voltage is set by two external resistors from 1.2 V up to 37 V, with a maximum input of 40 V. PSRR is specified at 80 dB to 65 dB at 120 Hz — the 80 dB floor at line frequency means the part can suppress mains ripple by a factor of 10,000, which is useful for powering sensitive analog loads from a rectified supply. Built-in protection includes over-current, over-temperature, and short-circuit — the regulator folds back current and shuts down thermally before the die exceeds safe junction temperature.
Industrial temperature grade and thermal derating
In the TO-220 package, the 1.5 A rating is achievable only with adequate heatsinking. Without a heatsink, the junction-to-ambient thermal resistance limits practical continuous current to roughly 0.5 A at 25°C ambient — plan the copper area or clip-on heatsink accordingly. Quiescent current is 10 mA typical — this is the ground pin current that flows regardless of load, so budget it in the supply rail for low-power designs.
