6V fixed output, 500mA LDO in DPAK — still active for new designs
The STMicroelectronics LF60CDT-TR is a positive fixed-output LDO voltage regulator delivering a regulated 6V at up to 500mA. The fixed 6V rail is useful for powering analog front-ends, sensor bias, or logic families that need a clean, stable supply above the common 3.3V or 5V levels.
Dropout voltage and input headroom — 0.7V max at full load
Maximum dropout voltage is specified at 0.7V when delivering the full 500mA output. That means the input rail must stay above 6.7V (6V output plus 0.7V dropout) to maintain regulation. In practice, a 7.5V or 8V rail gives comfortable margin; a 6.5V rail will drop out under load. The 16V absolute-maximum input rating allows use on 12V automotive buses or 9V–15V industrial supplies without a pre-regulator.
PSRR across frequency — 75dB at 120Hz, 60dB at 10kHz
Power-supply rejection ratio is listed as 75dB at 120Hz, rolling off to 60dB at 10kHz. This is the kind of curve you want when the LDO sits downstream of a switching regulator: the high low-frequency rejection cleans up the 100/120Hz ripple from a mains-rectified stage, while the still-respectable 60dB at 10kHz attenuates switching noise from a buck converter. For sensitive analog loads (op-amp supplies, ADC reference buffers), this PSRR profile is a meaningful advantage over cheaper LDOs that only spec at 1kHz.
Protection and quiescent current
Built-in over-current and over-temperature protection means the regulator survives output shorts and thermal overload without external foldback circuitry.
Package and mounting — DPAK with tab for thermal relief
The LF60CDT-TR is supplied in a DPAK (TO-252-3) package with two leads and a tab. The tab is the ground path and the primary heat-sinking surface — a PCB copper pour under the tab is expected for dissipating the roughly 0.35W at full load (0.7V dropout × 500mA). Without a thermal via stitch under the tab, junction temperature will rise above the 125°C limit at high ambient.
