PSRR and ripple rejection
With 72 dB PSRR at 120 Hz, this part knocks down full-wave-rectified ripple. That is adequate for a clean analog supply from a linear transformer front-end, but the PSRR rolls off above a few kilohertz — do not rely on it for post-regulation after a switching converter without additional LC filtering.
The TO-220-3 through-hole package with a metal tab is the standard power regulator footprint. The tab is electrically connected to the output pin; if you bolt it to a grounded heatsink, use an insulating pad and thermal grease.
Protection and lifecycle
Built-in over-current and over-temperature protection are standard for this class of regulator — the part folds back current or shuts down before damage occurs.
