Fixed -12 V rail for analog and mixed-signal loads
The L7912CD2T-TR delivers a fixed -12 V output at up to 1.5 A — the negative rail that powers op-amps, ADCs, DACs, or bipolar logic in industrial and instrumentation designs. The 1.1 V typical dropout at 1 A means the input can sit as low as -13.1 V and still hold regulation, which relaxes the pre-regulator tolerance.
Ripple rejection and thermal budget
PSRR is 60 dB at 120 Hz — that is the line-frequency rejection a negative rail needs to keep 60/100 Hz ripple off sensitive analog supplies. The 3 mA quiescent current is a fixed overhead; at 1.5 A load the efficiency is dominated by the dropout voltage, not Iq. The D2PAK (TO-263-3) tab is the primary heat path. Protection includes over-temperature shutdown and short-circuit current limiting.
