5V fixed regulator for harsh environments
The STMicroelectronics L7805T is a 5V fixed-output positive voltage regulator in the classic TO-3 steel package.
1.5A output and protection suite
The 1.5A output current rating sets the continuous load budget. With a typical dropout voltage of 2V at 1A, the input rail needs at least 7V to maintain regulation at full load. The quiescent current is 8 mA, which matters for battery-powered or always-on rails where the regulator's own draw cuts into the system budget. Built-in over-temperature and short-circuit protection let the regulator survive output shorts and thermal overload without external crowbar or foldback circuits — a real advantage in one-off or retrofit designs where board space is already committed.
62 dB PSRR — line rejection for industrial supplies
PSRR of 62 dB at 120 Hz tells you how well the regulator attenuates the 100/120 Hz ripple from a rectified mains supply. That's enough to knock a 1 Vpp ripple down to about 0.8 mVpp at the output — clean enough for most analog and logic loads without a post-filter.
