Product details

Single P-channel high-side switch for 8 V to 60 V industrial loads

The STMicroelectronics IPS160HTR is a single-output, high-side power switch built around a P-channel MOSFET. It switches loads from 8 V to 60 V, delivers up to 2.5 A continuously, and presents a typical on-resistance of 60 mOhm — low enough that conduction loss stays manageable even at full load in a 12 V or 24 V industrial bus system. The switch is self-contained: it requires no external Vcc supply rail (the gate drive is derived from the load voltage), and its On/Off interface accepts a non-inverting logic-level input. That makes it a drop-in replacement for a discrete P-channel FET plus gate driver, saving board area and BOM count.

2.5 A output with 60 mOhm Rds(on) — thermal headroom for continuous duty

At 2.5 A the conduction loss is I² × R = 0.375 W typical at 25°C junction. The PowerSSO-12 package (3.90 mm width, exposed pad) can sink that without forced airflow, but the 60 mOhm figure rises with temperature — expect roughly 1.5× at 125°C junction. Budget the copper area on the PCB pad accordingly. Built-in over-temperature protection and undervoltage lockout (UVLO) handle fault conditions. If the die exceeds the thermal threshold, the switch latches off until it cools — no external sense resistor or comparator needed. The UVLO prevents the gate drive from operating below the minimum load voltage, avoiding partial enhancement and excessive dissipation.

Frequently asked questions

What is the maximum load current the IPS160HTR can handle?

The IPS160HTR is rated for a continuous output current of 2.5 A maximum. The actual safe current depends on ambient temperature, PCB copper area, and airflow — derate from the 25°C figure as junction temperature rises.

Does the IPS160HTR include over-temperature protection?

Yes, the IPS160HTR has built-in over-temperature protection along with undervoltage lockout (UVLO). The thermal shutdown latches the output off when the die exceeds the threshold, protecting the load and the switch.
