High-side switch for 12–48 V industrial loads
The IPS1025HFTR is a single-channel high-side N-channel switch from STMicroelectronics, built for general-purpose on/off control of resistive, inductive, or capacitive loads on supply rails from 8.65 V to 60 V. Its 12 mOhm typical Rds(on) keeps conduction losses low enough that a 10 A continuous load stays within the thermal budget of the PowerSSO-24 package when the exposed pad is properly soldered to a copper plane. The input is non-inverting and the output is an N-channel FET with a 1:1 ratio — a logic-high on the On/Off interface turns the load on. Five integrated fault protections (current limiting, over-temperature, over-voltage, short-circuit, and UVLO) eliminate the need for external clamp diodes, resettable fuses, or supervisory ICs in most applications.
Sizing the thermal pad for 12 mOhm Rds(on)
At 12 mOhm typical on-resistance, a 10 A load dissipates 1.2 W in the FET. The PowerSSO-24 package (24-PowerBSOP, 7.50 mm width) relies on the exposed paddle to conduct heat into the PCB — without a thermal via array and a solid copper pour on the bottom layer, junction temperature rises above the 150°C rated maximum. The 8.65 V minimum supply voltage means the switch can run from a nominal 12 V rail with margin for transients down to 9 V. At the 60 V upper end, it suits 48 V industrial buses and battery stacks without an external clamp.
