25 A RMS alternistor with integrated snubberless commutation
The BTA26-600BWRG is a 25 A RMS, 600 V off-state Snubberless™ alternistor triac from STMicroelectronics in a TOP-3 insulated through-hole package. The Snubberless™ designation means the device is rated for full commutation without an external RC snubber network when driving inductive loads like motors, solenoids, or transformers — a direct BOM simplification for phase-control circuits.
Gate drive and holding current margins
Maximum gate trigger current is 50 mA and maximum gate trigger voltage is 1.3 V — both compatible with standard microcontroller GPIOs or optocoupler drivers without additional level shifting. The 75 mA maximum holding current ensures the triac remains latched down to low load currents typical of fan or pump idling states. The alternistor construction (four-layer structure) provides dv/dt immunity superior to standard triacs, which is why the Snubberless™ rating works: the internal design blocks false turn-on from fast voltage transients that would otherwise require a snubber.
Package and thermal interface
The through-hole mounting suits single-sided or double-sided PCBs where a thermal pad under the component is not available. Supplied in Tube packaging (standard for through-hole power devices), the BTA26-600BWRG is ROHS3 compliant with no restricted substances per the latest EU directive.
