70 V Schottky in a SOD-523 — what it handles
The BAS70KFILM is a small-signal Schottky diode from STMicroelectronics, rated for 70 V reverse voltage and 70 mA average rectified current.
Forward voltage and leakage — the signal-level trade-off
At 15 mA forward current the maximum forward voltage is 1 V — low enough to keep conduction losses minimal in a signal path, but not as low as a power Schottky. Reverse leakage is 10 µA at 70 V; that leakage doubles with temperature, so budget headroom if the junction runs hot. Junction capacitance is 2 pF at 0 V bias, 1 MHz. That low capacitance suits this diode for high-speed clamping, ESD protection on data lines, or RF detector circuits where the parasitic load on the signal matters.
SOD-523 rework — small, but workable
The SOD-523 package is a two-terminal device with a cathode mark on the top. The pad pitch is about 0.8 mm — fine enough that tweezers and a steady hand are needed for placement, but the thermal mass is low so hot-air rework is straightforward. Use a fine tip iron (0.3 mm chisel) for hand soldering; the part will survive a 260 °C peak reflow profile per J-STD-020.
