The STMicroelectronics 1.5KE62CA is a bidirectional TRANSIL™ transient voltage suppressor (TVS) diode from the 1.5KE series, rated for 1500 W (1.5 kW) peak pulse power under the standard 10/1000 µs waveform. It is designed for general-purpose overvoltage protection across a single line, protecting downstream circuitry from lightning-induced surges, inductive load switching, and ESD events. The device clamps at a maximum of 111 V at its peak pulse current rating of 90 A (8/20 µs waveform). With a reverse standoff voltage of 53 V and a minimum breakdown voltage of 58.9 V, this part protects 48 V and 52 V nominal rails with margin — the system bus must stay below 53 V to avoid measurable leakage current. Above 58.9 V the device begins conducting, and the low-impedance avalanche characteristic holds the clamp voltage to 111 V at full rated current. The single bidirectional channel handles both positive and negative transients on the same line, making it suitable for AC signal lines, data interfaces, or any application where polarity is not fixed. A single DO-201 axial lead package replaces two unidirectional diodes back-to-back, saving board space and reducing parts count.
Package and mounting — through-hole axial for high-reliability builds
Housed in a DO-201 axial leaded package, the 1.5KE62CA is a through-hole device intended for hand insertion, wave solder, or point-to-point wiring. Available in Cut Tape or Tape & Box formats for through-hole assembly lines. MSL is not a concern for through-hole parts — no bake-out required before assembly unless the leads show oxidation.
Lifecycle status — active production, no end-of-life risk
The base product number 1.5KE62 covers the entire family of unidirectional and bidirectional variants at this voltage rating.
