150 Mbps isolation barrier for mixed-voltage boards
The Skyworks SI8663EB-B-IU is a 6-channel digital isolator using capacitive coupling to pass signals across a 2500Vrms isolation barrier. It sits between two supply domains — 2.5V to 5.5V on each side — so a 3.3V MCU can talk to a 5V peripheral without ground loops or level-shifting the data lines. Rated for 150 Mbps per channel, the propagation delay is 13 ns max with 4 ns typical rise/fall times. That timing budget leaves headroom for SPI clock rates up to 50 MHz or parallel bus interfaces where the total skew across six lines must stay under 4.5 ns pulse-width distortion.
Channel count and direction — 3/3 split
Six unidirectional channels are split 3 inputs on side 1 and 3 inputs on side 2. That fixed direction means the part fits designs where the data flow is known at layout time — three lines from the controller to the peripheral, three back. For bidirectional buses like I²C or RS-485 half-duplex, a different channel configuration or external direction control is needed. Common-mode transient immunity is 50 kV/µs minimum. In a motor-drive or inverter environment where the ground plane jumps several hundred volts in a few nanoseconds, that rating keeps the output from glitching — the isolator rejects the dV/dt rather than passing it through as a data error.
Package and temperature grade
Surface-mount assembly with a standard reflow profile; no special bake required if the moisture sensitivity level is observed per the label. The 2500Vrms isolation is a basic-reinforced rating for equipment-level isolation, not patient-contact medical — suitable for PLC I/O modules, motor drives, and isolated sensor interfaces.
