Product details

I²C bus isolator with 5 kV reinforced isolation

The Skyworks Solutions SI8605AD-B-IS is a 4-channel I²C digital isolator using capacitive coupling to deliver 5000Vrms of galvanic isolation across the bus. That isolation rating meets reinforced-grade requirements per IEC 60747-17, so it handles the safety barrier between a low-voltage controller and a high-side I²C sensor or actuator without needing a separate isolated DC-DC converter. Three of the four channels are bidirectional (the I²C data and clock lines), and one is unidirectional — a common topology for isolating an I²C bus where the master and slave sit on different ground references. The 3/3 input-to-output count means three inputs on side 1 map to three outputs on side 2, with the remaining channel reversed.

Common-mode transient immunity and temperature range

A minimum common-mode transient immunity of 35 kV/µs means the isolator maintains data integrity when a fast voltage transient (like a motor-drive PWM edge or a lightning surge) slams the ground planes apart. Below that slew rate, the capacitive coupling still tracks the input; above it, the output may glitch. For a motor-drive or industrial inverter environment where 10–20 kV/µs transients are routine, this part has margin.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the SI8605AD-B-IS and the SI8605AC-B-IS1?

The SI8605AC-B-IS1 is the same 4-channel I²C isolator with identical channel configuration (3/3 bidirectional/unidirectional), same 35 kV/µs CMTI, and same -40°C to 125°C range, but its isolation voltage is 3750Vrms instead of 5000Vrms. The SI8605AD-B-IS drops into the same 16-SOIC footprint and pinout — no board change needed if the system can accept the lower isolation rating of the AC variant.
