I²C bus isolator in an 8-SOIC footprint
The Skyworks SI8602AB-B-IS is a two-channel I²C digital isolator using capacitive coupling to break ground loops on the SDA and SCL lines while passing bidirectional data on one channel and unidirectional clock on the other. Rated for 2500Vrms isolation with 35kV/µs common-mode transient immunity, this part keeps the I²C bus alive across a galvanic barrier in motor drives, inverters, and industrial sensors where high dV/dt edges would otherwise corrupt the data.
The -40°C to 125°C industrial temperature range means it handles the thermal swing inside a sealed enclosure or near a hot power stage without derating. No integrated isolated DC-DC converter — the secondary-side logic needs its own supply rail, which is typical for basic functional isolation where a separate bias supply already exists on the board.
Channel direction and field swap
The 2/1 input configuration means one channel is bidirectional (the I²C data line) and the other is unidirectional (the clock line) — this matches the standard I²C bus topology where SDA must pass data in both directions while SCL only drives from the master. If you are replacing a failed SI8602AB-B-IS in the field, the orientation is straightforward: pin 1 is marked with a dot on the SOIC body, and the 8-pin layout matches any SOIC-8 footprint on the board. No hot-air station needed — a standard soldering iron and desoldering wick will do the swap on site.
