8 Kbit I²C EEPROM in a 6-ball VCSP50L1 package
The ROHM BU9889GUL-WE2 is an 8 Kbit serial EEPROM with an I²C interface, organized as 1 K x 8 bits. The 400 kHz clock frequency matches the standard I²C fast-mode bus speed used by most microcontrollers. Data is non-volatile, with a 5 ms write cycle time per word or page. Typical applications include parameter storage, calibration data, and configuration registers in industrial sensors, telecom modules, and automotive cabin electronics.
Supply range and 1.8 V system compatibility
The 1.7 V minimum supply voltage directly answers the 1.8 V system compatibility question. This EEPROM can be powered from a 1.8 V rail with margin, so it fits low-voltage MCU designs without a separate level translator on the I²C bus. The 5.5 V upper limit also covers legacy 5 V buses, giving the BOM engineer one part number for mixed-voltage boards.
Package and footprint — VCSP50L1
The 6-UFBGA / CSPBGA package (supplier device package VCSP50L1) is a 0.5 mm pitch, 6-ball array. The small footprint saves board area but requires careful PCB layout: the solder-mask-defined pads need a stencil aperture matched to the ball diameter, and the reflow profile must follow the JEDEC MSL level for this package.
Lifecycle and compliance
It is ROHS3 compliant, meeting the current EU restriction on hazardous substances.
