1A adjustable LDO — dropout and quiescent trade-offs
The BD00IC0WHFV-GTR: This is a single-output, positive adjustable LDO delivering up to 1A from a 5.5V max input rail. The output adjusts from a 0.8V minimum up to 4.5V using an external resistor divider. Maximum dropout is 0.6V at the full 1A load — the input rail must stay at least 600mV above the set output voltage across the load range to maintain regulation. For a 3.3V output, the input needs at least 3.9V under load. Quiescent current is 250µA typical, with a maximum supply current of 500µA. This Iq is moderate for a 1A-capable LDO — not ultra-low-power, but acceptable for always-on rails in industrial control or sensor modules where the load current dominates the power budget.
Thermal and protection — the exposed-pad layout decision
Without it, the 1A output at high dropout voltage will push the junction above the 85°C ambient limit. On-chip protection includes over-current shutdown, over-temperature shutdown, and a soft-start circuit that limits inrush current during output ramp-up. These reduce the need for external protection diodes or sequencing ICs in most designs. The enable pin (active-high) lets the system power down the regulator to near-zero quiescent draw when the rail is not needed — useful for sequenced power-up or sleep-mode power gating.
