16-bit RL78/G23 MCU with integrated capacitive touch and wide supply range
The Renesas R7F100GEH2DNP#HA0 is a 16-bit RL78/G23 microcontroller built around the RL78 core, running at 32 MHz. It carries 192 KB of Flash program memory, 20 KB of RAM, and 8 KB of data EEPROM, which covers most mid-range control applications without needing external nonvolatile storage. The integrated capacitive touch sensing unit (Capacitive Touch, LVD, POR, PWM, WDT peripherals) allows direct touch-button or slider interfaces, eliminating a separate touch controller IC. The wide supply range of 1.6 V to 5.5 V simplifies power rail design — it can run from a single Li-ion cell or a 5 V industrial rail without a regulator.
The 192 KB Flash (192K x 8) is sized for application code plus a bootloader; the 8 KB EEPROM (8K x 8) holds calibration constants, configuration parameters, or production data that must survive power cycles. The 20 KB RAM provides enough headroom for real-time control loops and moderate communication buffers (CSI, I²C, LINbus, SPI, UART/USART).
Capacitive touch — no external controller needed
The RL78/G23 peripheral set includes a capacitive touch sensing unit that can drive touch buttons, sliders, or wheels directly through the MCU's I/O pins. This eliminates a dedicated touch controller IC and its associated firmware overhead. The peripheral is supported by Renesas' touch evaluation suite, which simplifies tuning for sensitivity and noise immunity.
40-WFQFN exposed pad — thermal and layout considerations
The 40-WFQFN exposed pad package (6x6 mm body) requires a thermal pad on the PCB for heat dissipation. The 33 I/O count is adequate for sensor interfaces, display segments, or keypad scanning in a compact footprint.
The RL78/G23 series is a current-generation platform, so PCN notifications are expected to follow standard Renesas notification timelines.
