Single-channel optocoupler for isolated signal transfer
The Renesas NEPOC PS8802-1-F3-AX is a single-channel optoisolator with a DC-input LED and a phototransistor output, housed in an 8-SOIC surface-mount package. It provides 2500Vrms galvanic isolation between input and output, making it a fit for breaking ground loops in industrial control, PLC digital inputs, motor-drive feedback, and isolated sensor interfaces. The transistor output can switch up to 35V at 8mA per channel, with a typical forward voltage of 1.7V at the LED side.
The current transfer ratio is specified between 15% and 45% at a forward current of 16mA. That spread means the output transistor's collector current will be 2.4mA to 7.2mA for a 16mA LED drive. If you are pulling up the output to a logic rail through a resistor, size the pull-up so the minimum CTR still guarantees a logic-low at the receiver over the full temperature range and LED aging. The turn-on time is 300ns typical, turn-off 600ns typical — fast enough for 1 Mbps isolated data links, but the asymmetry means the output pulse width will be slightly compressed at higher data rates.
Temperature range and storage considerations
Rated for operation from -55°C to 100°C, this part covers industrial environments and most outdoor telecom cabinets, but the 100°C upper limit is 25°C lower than many automotive-grade optocouplers. If your design sees sustained junction temperatures above 100°C, look for a 125°C-rated alternative. The 8-SOIC package is MSL 3 — store the reels dry or bake before reflow if the moisture-barrier bag has been open past the floor-life window.
Lifecycle and compliance
The NEPOC series is a long-running Renesas optocoupler family with broad cross-reference coverage.
