2500Vrms isolation in a 4-pin SSOP
The Renesas NEPOC PS2815-1-F3-A is a single-channel transistor-output optocoupler that provides 2500Vrms galvanic isolation between input and output. It accepts both AC and DC input drive, making it flexible for polarity-independent or AC-line sensing circuits. The output transistor is rated for 40V and 40mA, with a typical Vce saturation of 300mV at moderate current. This part is designed for industrial control, PLC I/O modules, motor-drive feedback, and isolated signal interfaces where a compact, surface-mount isolation barrier is needed.
CTR range and drive margin
The current transfer ratio is specified from 100% minimum to 400% maximum at a forward current of 1mA. This wide CTR band guarantees reliable switching across temperature extremes and LED aging. At 1mA drive, the output transistor is guaranteed to sink at least 1mA (100% CTR), so a 10kΩ pull-up to 5V will switch cleanly. The 400% ceiling means the designer should size the base resistor or pull-up to avoid saturating the output too hard at high CTR — a common gotcha in optocoupler selection.
AC/DC input — polarity flexibility
Unlike many optocouplers that only accept DC forward current, the PS2815-1-F3-A's input LED is rated for AC or DC drive. This means the input can be driven from a bipolar signal (e.g., a zero-crossing detector on mains) or from a DC logic output without worrying about polarity. The forward voltage is typically 1.15V, and the maximum continuous forward current is 50mA.
Temperature range and environment
The 4-SSOP package (4.40mm body width) is compact enough for dense PCB layouts, and the surface-mount footprint is reworkable with a hot-air station if needed.
