Four-channel optocoupler for isolated signal paths
The Renesas NEPOC PS2805C-4-F3-A is a 4-channel phototransistor optocoupler in a 16-pin SSOP surface-mount package. It provides 2500Vrms galvanic isolation between input and output, with a transistor output rated for 80V and 30mA per channel. The input accepts both AC and DC drive, making it suitable for sensing AC line status or DC logic levels across an isolation barrier. Typical applications include industrial PLC I/O modules, motor-drive feedback, power-supply voltage monitoring, and any board-to-board signal isolation where four independent channels are needed in a single compact package.
CTR spread and bias margin
The current transfer ratio spans 50% minimum to 400% maximum at a forward current of 5 mA. That 8:1 spread means the receiving-side pull-up resistor and logic threshold must be chosen for the worst-case minimum CTR, not the typical. At 5 mA forward, the minimum CTR of 50% guarantees the output transistor can sink enough current to pull a standard 5V CMOS input low through a 10 kΩ pull-up. The 400% ceiling is useful for low-power designs where the LED drive current is kept under 1 mA, but the output still needs to drive a logic gate.
Switching speed and timing budget
Typical turn-on time is 10 µs and turn-off is 7 µs, with rise and fall times of 5 µs and 7 µs respectively. This is a general-purpose optocoupler, not a high-speed digital isolator — expect propagation delays in the tens of microseconds. For 10 kHz PWM or 115.2 kbps serial isolation, the timing is marginal; for 50/60 Hz mains zero-cross detection or DC on/off signals, it is more than adequate.
Temperature range and environment
The 2500Vrms isolation rating is a 1-minute withstand test; for reinforced insulation in mains-connected equipment, check the creepage and clearance distances against your safety standard (IEC 60950-1 / 62368-1).
Package and footprint
The 16-SSOP package (0.173" body width, 4.40 mm) is a standard SOIC-width footprint. Surface-mount only; no through-hole option exists for this order code.
