Audio codec for portable and embedded audio chains
The Renesas DA7219-02VBA is a 24-bit audio codec integrating one ADC and two DACs, controlled over an I²C serial interface. It targets battery-powered or space-constrained designs where a single-chip encode/decode path is needed for voice, playback, or tone generation.
The ADC path delivers 90 dB SNR typical, while the DAC path achieves 100 dB SNR typical. For a line-level output, 100 dB SNR means the noise floor sits roughly 100 dB below full scale — the hiss you might hear on a quiet passage in headphones is below the ambient noise of most rooms. With 24-bit resolution, the codec captures a theoretical dynamic range of 144 dB; the practical limit is set by the analog front-end and the SNR figures above. The 90 dB ADC SNR is adequate for voice and moderate-quality music capture, while the 100 dB DAC SNR supports high-fidelity playback.
Package, footprint, and board integration
Housed in a 32-ball WLCSP (4.5 mm × 1.64 mm body), the DA7219-02VBA is a true chip-scale package — the die is roughly the size of the package. Surface-mount assembly requires a solder-paste stencil matched to the ball pitch; the 0.4 mm or 0.5 mm pitch (typical for WLCSP) demands careful PCB land pattern design and X-ray inspection for voiding. The operating temperature range of -25 °C to 85 °C covers consumer, portable, and most industrial ambient environments. It does not reach automotive Grade 1 or military temperature extremes — not a part for an engine bay or outdoor enclosure in direct sun.
