Reverse standoff is 7 V typ, meaning the TVS sits invisible on the line during normal operation; the 7.78 V minimum breakdown threshold is where it begins conducting during a surge event. Rated for a 1.5 kW peak pulse at that waveform, the part protects downstream circuitry from voltage spikes that would otherwise exceed the clamp ceiling — the downstream bus sees 12 V, not the full surge magnitude.
SMC package and thermal margin
