Standoff, breakdown, and clamping — what the numbers mean for protection
The 1.5SMCJ51A_R1_00001 is a unidirectional Zener-type transient voltage suppressor — the standoff voltage of 51 V sets the rail it watches without conducting in normal operation. Breakdown triggers at a minimum of 56.7 V, clamping the overvoltage event and limiting the peak at 82.4 V when the peak pulse current of 18.2 A flows through the device.
Package and thermal environment
The maximum junction temperature of 150 °C with an operating range down to -55 °C covers both the cold-start extremes and the elevated ambient conditions found in industrial or outdoor enclosures. Since this is a unidirectional single-channel device, it protects one polarity only — a second device reversed is required for bidirectional AC-line protection.
Series positioning and sourcing posture
The 1.5SMCJ series is Panjit's 1.5 kW peak-pulse TVS family — variants span a range of standoff voltages, all sharing the same DO-214AB SMC package and tape-and-reel packaging.
