Transient suppression for 17.1V rails
The 1.5SMC20CA_R1_00001: The 27.7V maximum clamping voltage at the 54A peak pulse current means the protected rail sees no more than 27.7V during the surge event — a margin that keeps 30V-rated downstream components inside their safe operating area. The bidirectional configuration (single channel) clamps symmetrically, suiting it for AC signal lines or bipolar DC rails where polarity reversal is possible.
Thermal and package fit for reflow assembly
The SMC footprint provides a low-inductance path to the PCB copper pour, which acts as the primary heatsink for the 1500W pulse. The supplier device package is SMC (DO-214AB), a standard JEDEC outline with a 0.050-inch (1.27 mm) lead pitch. No power line protection function is built in — this is a pure transient suppressor, not a switching regulator input protector.
The 1.5SMC series is a widely used TVS family; multiple manufacturers offer pin-compatible alternatives in the same DO-214AB footprint for second-source hedging if required.
