Automotive TVS for 12V rail protection
The 1.5SMC13A-AU_R1_000A1: The DO-214AB (SMC) package is the standard footprint for 1.5kW TVS diodes, compatible with reflow soldering profiles used in automotive PCB assembly.
Protection window and surge rating
The 11.1V reverse standoff voltage means the diode does not conduct at the normal 12V battery voltage, leaving the protected rail undisturbed. Breakdown occurs at 12.4V minimum, so the diode starts clamping before the rail exceeds the typical 16V load-dump ceiling for 12V systems. The 18.2V clamping voltage at 82A peak pulse current limits the transient energy that reaches downstream components. For a given transient energy, the clamping voltage determines the peak current the diode can handle — at 18.2V clamp, the 82A rating is consistent with the 1500W power limit.
Active lifecycle and sourcing posture
Panjit lists the 1.5SMC13A-AU_R1_000A1 as Active, so there is no last-time-buy pressure for current designs. The 1.5SMC-AU series covers multiple standoff voltages in the same DO-214AB footprint, so a BOM change to a different voltage variant would require a board-level review of the protection window.
