Dual-channel opto in a standard SOIC-8 footprint
The onsemi MOCD217M packs two independent phototransistor optocouplers into a single 8-SOIC package, saving board space compared to two single-channel parts.
The 2500Vrms isolation rating is basic isolation suitable for general-purpose signal isolation in industrial control, PLC I/O modules, and power supply feedback loops — not reinforced isolation for medical or mains-connected applications. The 150mA output per channel lets this part drive small relays, LEDs, or logic inputs directly without a buffer transistor. With a 100% minimum CTR at 1mA If, the MOCD217M guarantees the output transistor will saturate (Vce < 400mV) when the LED is driven with just 1mA — important for low-power designs where the microcontroller cannot source more than a few milliamps per pin. The 30V output max means it interfaces cleanly with 5V, 12V, or 24V logic rails. Switching speed is moderate: 3.2µs rise and 4.7µs fall typical. This is fine for DC signal transfer, PLC input sampling at a few hundred hertz, or slow PWM — but not for high-speed serial buses or switching power supply feedback above a few kilohertz.
It is ROHS3 compliant, so no exemption issues for EU or RoHS-regulated markets.
