Active dual-channel isolator for signal isolation
The onsemi MOCD213R2M is an active-production dual-channel optoisolator with a transistor output, rated for 2500Vrms isolation between input and output — enough to break ground loops in industrial control signals and protect low-voltage logic from transient spikes on the field side. Each channel sinks up to 150mA continuous, so it can drive a small relay coil or a PLC input module directly without a buffer transistor. The 100% minimum current transfer ratio at 10mA forward current means the output transistor saturates reliably when the LED is driven at that level — no guesswork on the drive current for a given load.
8-SOIC package and temperature range
Rated for operation from -40°C to 100°C, it covers the industrial temperature band for factory-floor electronics, motor drive control boards, and HVAC system controllers. The DC input type means it switches on a steady forward current — no AC line rectification needed, just a series resistor from a logic rail or a microcontroller GPIO pin.
Switching speed and saturation
Typical turn-on time is 3µs and turn-off is 2.8µs, with rise/fall times of 1.6µs and 2.2µs respectively — fast enough for 100kHz data isolation or PWM signal transmission without significant pulse-width distortion. The maximum output voltage rating of 70V means the output transistor can switch loads on a 24V or 48V industrial bus without exceeding the breakdown voltage.
