4170Vrms isolation, zero-crossing triac output for AC load switching
The MOC3063SR2VM from onsemi is a single-channel optoisolator with a triac output rated for 600 V off-state and a minimum static dV/dt of 600 V/µs. The 4170Vrms isolation rating covers the creepage and clearance needed for 120/240 VAC line-voltage isolation in industrial and appliance controls. A built-in zero-crossing circuit gates the triac on only near the AC voltage zero, which limits inrush current into capacitive or resistive loads and reduces conducted EMI at turn-on. This makes the part a natural fit for solid-state relay modules, motor contactors, and heater controllers where soft-start behaviour is not required but surge current must be bounded.
500 µA hold current and 5 mA LED trigger threshold
The typical hold current (Ih) is 500 µA. If the load current drops below this near the AC zero-crossing, the triac may commutate off — a consideration for low-wattage loads like small relays or indicator lamps. Forward voltage (Vf) is 1.3 V typical, and the absolute maximum DC forward current is 60 mA. The 600 V/µs minimum static dV/dt provides enough margin to keep the output off under fast line transients without an external snubber in many designs.
