Triac output with zero-crossing gate drive
The MOC3041VM is a 1-channel optoisolator from onsemi that drives a Triac output with an integrated zero-crossing circuit, making it a direct fit for switching AC loads in industrial control boards — solenoids, contactors, small motors, and resistive heaters — without generating the switching noise a random-phase trigger would inject into the line. The zero-crossing circuit fires the internal Triac only when the AC voltage crosses the zero point, so the load sees a clean sine-wave start and the board avoids the conducted EMI that a mid-cycle switch-on radiates back onto the mains. Rated 400 V off-state blocking voltage, the output stage can handle 240 VAC and 277 VAC line switching with headroom for transient spikes that ride the sine wave.
4170 Vrms isolation barrier — reinforced-grade certification
Isolation is rated at 4170 Vrms, which meets reinforced-grade requirements per IEC/EN/DIN and UL standards — the barrier is certified for direct connection between a microcontroller-side low-voltage circuit and a mains-voltage load without additional galvanic protection on the board. Minimum static dV/dt is 1 kV/µs — this is the immunity spec that matters when the Triac is driving an inductive load (a relay coil or motor starter) whose back-EMF could otherwise trigger the output falsely and latch the load on past the intended turn-off point. The 400 µA typical hold current means the output Triac stays latched once triggered until the load current drops below that threshold at the next AC zero crossing — consistent with the zero-crossing turn-off behaviour a designer expects from this class of optoisolator.
