Zero-crossing triac driver for 240VAC line switching
The MOC3041TVM is a 1-channel optoisolator with a triac output rated for 400 V off-state voltage and 4170Vrms isolation. The built-in zero-crossing circuit triggers the triac only near the AC line zero crossing, which reduces inrush current and radiated EMI — a practical advantage when driving resistive or lightly inductive loads like heaters, solenoids, or solid-state relays from a microcontroller.
1 kV/µs dV/dt immunity and hold current
Minimum static dV/dt is 1 kV/µs, which prevents false turn-on from fast voltage transients on the AC line — common when switching motor contactors or nearby relays. Typical hold current is 400 µA, so the triac stays latched through the zero-crossing window until the load current drops below that threshold.
Active production, through-hole package
onsemi lists the MOC3041TVM as Active. The 6-DIP footprint is a standard layout shared with many MOC304x and MOC30xx series parts, so a board designed for this package can accept pin-compatible alternates without a layout change.
Trigger current and forward voltage for MCU drive
The LED can handle up to 60 mA DC forward current, so the drive design has margin.
