Triac output and zero-crossing choice
The MOC3022M is a 1-channel optoisolator with a Triac output and no zero-crossing circuit. The absence of zero-crossing means the Triac fires immediately when the LED current exceeds the 10 mA trigger threshold, regardless of the AC line phase. This makes it the right choice for phase-angle control — dimmers, soft-starts, or heater regulators where the load is switched at any point in the sine wave.
Isolation and off-state voltage
Rated for 4170Vrms isolation (UL recognized) and 400 V off-state blocking voltage. The 400 V off-state covers 240 VAC line peaks (339 V) with margin for transients. The 4170Vrms isolation satisfies reinforced insulation requirements for mains-connected control circuits in industrial and appliance applications.
Active production and compliance
onsemi lists the MOC3022M as Active and ROHS3 compliant. The part carries UL recognition, which simplifies regulatory acceptance for equipment sold into North American markets.
