5000Vrms isolation – safety margin for industrial barriers
The MCT61SD: Rated for 5000Vrms isolation – this exceeds the 3750Vrms common on single-channel peers like the FODM217BR2V. The extra margin matters when designing for reinforced insulation in motor drives, PLC I/O modules, or medical equipment where the safety standard demands a higher isolation voltage than the minimum. Two independent transistor-output channels in a single 8-SMD Gull Wing package let you isolate two signals without doubling the PCB footprint. Each channel sinks up to 30 mA and switches with a typical 2.4 µs turn-on and turn-off time – fast enough for 115 kbps digital isolation or low-speed analog feedback loops.
Wide temperature range – outdoor and cold-start capable
Operating from -55°C to 100°C – the -55°C low end is uncommon for optocouplers and signals suitability for outdoor telecom cabinets, solar inverters, or equipment that must start reliably in freezing conditions. The 100°C ceiling covers most industrial enclosures without forced cooling. Minimum current transfer ratio of 50% at 5 mA forward current ensures the output transistor saturates reliably when the LED is driven at a standard 5 mA. The 400 mV max Vce(sat) keeps the logic-low voltage well within TTL/CMOS thresholds for a direct interface to a microcontroller input.
Sourcing and package options
Available in Tape & Reel (TR) or Cut Tape (CT) for the 8-SMD Gull Wing package. The surface-mount footprint mates with standard reflow profiles – no special handling beyond standard moisture sensitivity level (MSL) bake requirements per J-STD-020. onsemi is the sole manufacturer. The closest single-channel alternative is the FODM217BR2V, but that part offers only 3750Vrms isolation and one channel – a meaningful downgrade if your design requires dual isolation or the higher 5 kV rating.
