5V fixed output, 1A — PSRR 83 dB at 120 Hz
The MC7805ACTG: The 83 dB power-supply rejection ratio at 120 Hz makes it a natural fit for cleaning up rectified mains ripple on analog supply rails — the 120 Hz rejection is high enough that a downstream ADC or op-amp sees a clean DC bus without an additional LC filter stage. Input voltage range goes up to 35 V, with a maximum dropout of 2 V at full load (1 A). Operating temperature spans 0 °C to 125 °C — a commercial-to-industrial grade that covers most bench, lab, and factory-floor equipment but does not meet the -40 °C cold-crank requirement for automotive under-hood placement.
TO-220 through-hole — heatsink-ready
Housed in a TO-220-3 through-hole package (supplier device package TO-220), the metal tab provides a direct thermal path to a heatsink or PCB copper plane. At 1 A with a 2 V dropout, the regulator dissipates 2 W — a small clip-on heatsink keeps the junction below 125 °C in still air. Built-in over-temperature and short-circuit protection prevent damage from a sustained output fault or inadequate heatsinking — the regulator thermally cycles rather than failing open or short. Quiescent current is 6 mA — moderate for a 1 A linear regulator; the load regulation is tight enough that the 6 mA Iq does not shift the output voltage noticeably from no-load to full-load.
