Dual-channel optocoupler for isolated signal paths
The onsemi HCPL2530SDM is a dual-channel transistor-output optocoupler in an 8-SMD Gull Wing package, rated for 2500Vrms isolation between input and output. It accepts a DC input and provides two independent output channels, each capable of 8mA continuous output current.
Current transfer ratio spans 7% to 50% at a forward current of 16mA — the minimum CTR of 7% means the output transistor saturates with at least 1.12mA collector current when driven at 16mA input, enough to pull a logic input low through a 1kΩ pull-up to 5V. The 450ns typical turn-on and 300ns turn-off times place this part in the medium-speed class for optocouplers, suitable for isolating digital signals up to roughly 1 MHz depending on load resistance and capacitance.
Temperature grade and isolation rating
Operating temperature from -55°C to 100°C covers industrial and some military-grade environments — the lower end is cold-soak for outdoor or avionics applications, while the 100°C ceiling keeps the LED and phototransistor within their junction limits in a sealed enclosure. The 2500Vrms isolation rating is tested per the optocoupler standard; it provides basic insulation for mains-referenced circuits where transient overvoltages stay below that level.
