Dual-channel digital isolator for noisy industrial links
The onsemi HCPL0637 is a dual-channel optoisolator with a 3750Vrms isolation rating, designed to pass digital signals across a galvanic barrier in motor drives, PLC I/O, and inverter interfaces. Its open-collector Schottky-clamped output sinks up to 15 mA per channel and switches at 10Mbps, with typical rise/fall times of 17 ns and 5 ns — fast enough for 10 MHz clock or data lines without adding jitter. The 5 kV/µs minimum common-mode transient immunity keeps the output state stable when a 1 kV/ns noise edge slams across the isolation barrier — a common failure mode in 3-phase inverter gate drives.
Supply rail and timing budget for 5 V logic
Maximum propagation delay is 75 ns in both directions — budget the full 75 ns tpHL and tpLH into your timing closure analysis. The open-collector output requires an external pull-up resistor to Vcc; the Schottky clamp limits the output swing, reducing the voltage step and radiated emissions compared to a standard open-collector.
