Product details

Isolation and signal transfer at the bench

The H11AV1AM: Current transfer ratio (CTR) is guaranteed between 100% and 300% at a 10 mA forward current — this spread tells you the output transistor will sink at least 10 mA when the LED is driven at 10 mA, and at most 30 mA, so the load resistor in the collector circuit must be sized for the minimum CTR to guarantee the logic threshold is crossed. Switching is specified at 15 µs typical for both turn-on and turn-off — at 10 mA drive, the output transitions in about 15 µs, which limits the data rate to roughly 33 kHz in a simple digital isolator application; faster protocols like RS-485 or CAN would need a faster opto.

Lifecycle and compliance documentation

onsemi provides the usual compliance documentation: RoHS3 declaration, REACH SVHC disclosure, and UL recognition for the 4170 Vrms isolation rating — the UL file number is typically on the product label or available through the distributor.

Frequently asked questions

Will H11AV1AM drop into a board originally specified around 4N25SR2M?

The 4N25SR2M is a surface-mount (SMD) version of the classic 4N25 optoisolator, while the H11AV1AM is a through-hole 6-DIP part — they are not pin-compatible without a board spin. Functionally both are single-channel DC-input optos with a transistor output, but the 4N25SR2M has a 2 µs switching speed versus the H11AV1AM's 15 µs, and its CTR is typically 100-500% at 10 mA. For a through-hole board, the H11AV1AM is a direct fit; for an SMD board, you would need an adapter or a different part.
