Product details

5300 Vrms isolation in a 6-DIP through-hole package

The onsemi H11A4W is a single-channel phototransistor optoisolator with a guaranteed 5300 Vrms isolation rating, packaged in the industry-standard 6-DIP (0.400", 10.16 mm) through-hole format. The DC input drives an infrared LED; the output is a phototransistor with the base brought out, giving the designer the option to add a base resistor for speed adjustment or leave it open for standard transistor operation.

CTR floor and switching speed for the BOM

Minimum current transfer ratio is 10 % at a forward current of 10 mA — this is the floor the designer budgets for to guarantee the output transistor saturates at the load current. The typical turn-on and turn-off times are both 2 µs, which suits logic-level signal isolation up to a few hundred kilohertz; for higher-speed interfaces a logic-output optocoupler would be a better fit. Maximum Vce saturation is 400 mV, so the output drops less than half a volt when fully on at the rated collector current. The output transistor is rated for 30 V maximum, and the forward voltage of the LED is 1.18 V typical, which is standard for an infrared GaAs emitter. Operating temperature spans -55 °C to 100 °C, covering industrial and most automotive under-hood environments. The maximum continuous forward current through the LED is 100 mA, and the package is supplied in tubes.

onsemi has marked the H11A4W as obsolete.

Frequently asked questions

What package does the H11A4W come in?

It is supplied in a 6-DIP (0.400", 10.16 mm) through-hole package, shipped in tubes.

What is the minimum current transfer ratio of the H11A4W?

The minimum CTR is 10 % at a forward current of 10 mA. This is the guaranteed worst-case value that the designer uses to ensure the output transistor saturates under the load.
