3750Vrms isolation in a 4-SOIC body
The FODM217DR2V is a single-channel phototransistor optocoupler from onsemi's FODM217 series, packing 3750Vrms of galvanic isolation into a 4-SOIC (4.40 mm width) surface-mount package. The DC input side drives an LED at 1.2 Vf typical; the output transistor handles up to 80 V and 50 mA continuous. The 3750Vrms isolation rating is the key safety spec — it defines the voltage barrier between the low-voltage control side and the higher-voltage load side, suitable for reinforced insulation in many industrial and appliance applications.
CTR range and switching speed
Current transfer ratio is specified at 300% minimum to 600% maximum at a forward current of 5 mA. That wide spread means the design must tolerate the low end — at 300% CTR the output transistor needs 1.67 mA of base drive to saturate, which the 50 mA output rating easily covers. Rise and fall times are both 3 µs typical, giving a practical switching ceiling around 100 kHz for logic-level signals. The turn-on and turn-off times match at 3 µs each, so the part is symmetrical in propagation delay.
Active production, ROHS3 compliant
The FODM217DR2V carries an Active product status with ROHS3 compliance. Supplied in Tape & Reel (TR) or Cut Tape (CT) options, the 4-SOP package (4-SOIC, 4.40 mm width) is a standard footprint shared across the FODM217 family, simplifying alternate qualification.
