5000Vrms isolation — the reinforced-grade barrier
The FODM1009R2V: The headline rating is 5000Vrms isolation between input and output. That places this optocoupler in the reinforced-insulation class per IEC 60950-1 and IEC 62368-1 — the level required for safety isolation in mains-connected circuits such as AC-DC power supplies, motor-drive feedback paths, and industrial PLC I/O modules where the field side must be galvanically separated from the controller side.
CTR window — 200% to 400% at 5 mA
A 200% floor means the output transistor can sink at least 10 mA with 5 mA LED drive — enough to pull a standard 5 V logic input low without an external pull-up resistor. The 400% ceiling prevents saturation-induced slow turn-off in high-gain circuits. This wide CTR window also absorbs LED degradation over temperature and lifetime, so the circuit stays within the logic threshold without re-biasing.
Switching speed — 5.7 µs rise, 8.5 µs fall
Typical rise and fall times are 5.7 µs and 8.5 µs respectively. This sets the practical data-rate ceiling at roughly 60 kHz for a 50% duty-cycle square wave — adequate for PWM signals in motor drives, relay coil drivers, and status feedback from sensors. It is not a part for high-speed serial isolation (CAN, RS-485, I²C); those need a digital isolator or a dedicated optocoupler with logic-output stages.
Industrial temperature range — -40°C to 110°C
The operating temperature span covers -40°C to 110°C. The 50 mA maximum output current and 70 V output voltage rating give enough headroom to drive a small relay or a logic input directly.
Package and tape format
Housed in a 4-SOP Gull Wing package (supplier device package 4-SOP), the FODM1009R2V shares the same 4-SMD, Gull Wing footprint as the tube-packaged FODM1009. The 4-SOP body width is 4.4 mm typical, with a 2.54 mm pin pitch that matches standard optocoupler land patterns.
