4243Vrms reinforced isolation for motor-drive gate drive
The FOD8332R2V is a single-channel gate-drive optocoupler from onsemi, built for driving IGBTs and power MOSFETs in motor drives, inverters, and industrial power supplies. Its 4243Vrms isolation voltage meets the reinforced insulation requirements of IEC/EN/DIN and UL standards — the same certification needed for safety-rated isolation barriers in variable-frequency drives and servo amplifiers.
3A peak output and 35kV/µs CMTI define the switching edge
Peak output current is 3A, with continuous source/sink capability of 2.5A each — enough to charge and discharge the gate capacitance of a medium-power IGBT module in under 100ns. The 50ns typical rise and fall time, paired with 250ns max propagation delay, keeps dead-time margins tight in a 10-20 kHz PWM inverter. Common-mode transient immunity is rated at 35kV/µs minimum. In a motor-drive application where the switching node swings several hundred volts in tens of nanoseconds, that CMTI figure means the optocoupler's output does not glitch when the IGBT collector voltage transitions — a false turn-on here would short the DC bus.
Wide supply range and industrial temperature grade
The output-side supply range spans 3V to 15V, covering both 3.3V/5V logic interfaces and the 12V/15V gate-drive rails common in industrial power stages. Operating temperature from -40°C to 100°C covers the ambient inside a ventilated cabinet or outdoor-rated enclosure without derating. The 16-SOIC wide-body package (0.295-inch body width, 7.50mm) provides the creepage distance required for reinforced isolation — the same footprint used across onsemi's gate-drive optocoupler family, so a layout designed for one variant accepts this one without board changes.
