Gate-driver fit for motor-drive and inverter stages
The FOD8332R2 is an onsemi single-channel optoisolated gate driver in a surface-mount package. It delivers a 3A peak output current with 4243Vrms isolation between input and output, making it a direct fit for driving IGBTs and power MOSFETs in motor drives, UPS, and solar inverter stages where galvanic isolation is required. The 35kV/µs common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) ensures the driver does not false-trigger under the fast voltage slewing typical of a 3-phase inverter bridge. The 50ns typical rise and fall times keep switching losses low in the power stage.
The 4243Vrms isolation voltage is the safety barrier rating — it determines where this part can be used in reinforced-insulation designs per UL. The 3A peak output with 2.5A source/sink capability drives the gate charge of a typical 50A IGBT in under 250ns propagation delay, which keeps the dead-time margin tight. The 100ns maximum pulse-width distortion matters for dead-time accuracy in half-bridge configurations — a 100ns skew between the high-side and low-side channels can push the dead-time below the IGBT's minimum safe threshold. The 1.45V typical forward voltage at 25 mA max forward current sets the LED drive current budget on the primary side.
