Gate-driver optocoupler for IGBT/MOSFET switching
The FOD8314TR2 is a single-channel optical coupling gate driver from onsemi, rated for 1.5 A peak output current and 5000 Vrms isolation. It drives the gate of a medium-power IGBT or MOSFET in motor-drive and industrial power-supply stages where reinforced insulation is required between the controller and the power device. The 6-SOP package (6-SOIC, 0.268" body width) is a surface-mount footprint that fits standard pick-and-place assembly. The part is supplied on Tape & Reel (TR) or Cut Tape (CT) reels.
Switching speed and transient immunity
Typical rise and fall times are 60 ns and 40 ns respectively, with a maximum propagation delay of 500 ns for both tpLH and tpHL. Pulse-width distortion is held to 300 ns max. These numbers set the minimum dead-time budget in a half-bridge design. Common-mode transient immunity is specified at a minimum of 20 kV/µs. This is the threshold for rejecting the fast dV/dt that appears across the isolation barrier during IGBT turn-off; a lower CMTI risks false triggering of the output stage.
Supply range and output drive
The output supply voltage range is 16 V to 30 V. The high-side and low-side output currents are each rated at 1 A, and the peak output is 1.5 A. For a typical IGBT with a gate charge of 150 nC, the 1.5 A peak delivers a turn-on time of roughly 100 ns, which is consistent with the 60 ns rise time. The LED forward voltage is 1.5 V typical, with a maximum DC forward current of 25 mA. The input-side current limit resistor should be sized to stay below 25 mA at the controller's logic-high voltage.
Temperature grade and operating environment
The operating temperature range is -40°C to 100°C. This covers industrial and outdoor telecom enclosures but does not reach the 125°C junction limit of automotive-grade parts. The part is ROHS3 compliant. Lifecycle status is Active.
