Triac-output optoisolator for AC load switching without zero-cross
The FOD4216V is a single-channel triac-output optoisolator from onsemi, rated for 5000 Vrms isolation and 600 V off-state voltage. It switches AC loads with 60 µs turn-on time and requires only 1.3 mA max LED trigger current. Unlike zero-crossing types, this part triggers at any point in the AC cycle, making it suitable for phase-angle control in dimmers, soft-start circuits, and proportional heater controllers where the triac must fire mid-cycle.
dV/dt immunity and temperature range for industrial environments
Minimum static dV/dt is 10 kV/µs, which prevents false turn-on when switching inductive loads like motors, solenoids, or contactors where fast voltage transients appear across the off-state triac. The -55°C to 100°C operating range covers unheated outdoor cabinets and factory-floor panels without derating. Hold current is 500 µA typical, ensuring the triac latches on once triggered even with low-load currents down to a few milliamps. Forward voltage is 1.28 V typical at 30 mA max DC forward current.
Active production, through-hole package, and approvals
The 6-DIP through-hole package (0.300-inch, 7.62 mm pitch) is a standard footprint for wave-solder assembly and manual rework.
