What 5000Vrms isolation and 3A drive mean for your inverter
The FOD3184S is an optocoupled gate driver from onsemi that delivers 3A peak output current across a reinforced 5000Vrms isolation barrier. That isolation rating is the spec that decides whether your motor drive or power supply passes safety certification — 5000Vrms covers the test voltage for reinforced isolation in mains-connected equipment up to 600V working voltage. The 3A peak drive charges the gate capacitance of a standard IGBT or MOSFET fast enough to keep switching losses under control; the 38ns rise and 24ns fall times mean the Miller plateau is traversed quickly, reducing the time the device spends in the linear region.
Active production — no last-time-buy pressure
The FOD3184S carries an Active lifecycle status and is ROHS3 compliant. For a gate-drive optocoupler that is often a single-source item in the BOM, Active status means you can commit the line to production without worrying about a forced redesign.
