3 A peak output gate driver with 5000 Vrms isolation
The FOD3182TV is a single-channel optocoupler gate driver from onsemi that delivers 3 A peak output current across a 10 V to 30 V output supply range. Isolation is rated at 5000 Vrms with a minimum common-mode transient immunity of 35 kV/µs. That CMTI figure is the critical one for motor-drive and inverter applications: when the high-side switch commutates at several kV/µs, a gate driver with poor CMTI can couple that edge into the gate signal and cause a shoot-through. The FOD3182TV's 35 kV/µs floor keeps the output state stable through that transient.
Fast switching with 38 ns rise / 24 ns fall
Typical rise time is 38 ns, fall time 24 ns, and maximum propagation delay is 210 ns symmetrical on both edges. The asymmetry in rise vs fall is deliberate — the faster fall helps clamp the Miller plateau during turn-off, reducing the risk of parasitic turn-on in the power switch. Pulse-width distortion is capped at 65 ns, which matters for dead-time budgeting in half-bridge topologies. Output high and low current are both rated at 2.5 A, so the driver sinks and sources symmetrically. That means the gate charge is pulled out at the same rate it is pushed in, which keeps the turn-on and turn-off delay matched within the propagation-delay window.
Active production, through-hole 8-DIP package
The supplier device package is 8-MDIP. Approvals include UL and VDE, which covers the safety certification requirements for industrial power supplies and motor drives sold into North American and European markets.
