The FOD3182S is a single-channel optocoupler gate driver from onsemi, built to drive IGBTs and power MOSFETs across a reinforced 5000 Vrms isolation barrier. With a 3 A peak output current and symmetrical 2.5 A source/sink capability, it can charge and discharge the gate capacitance of medium-power switching devices without an external booster stage. The 35 kV/µs common-mode transient immunity keeps the output from false-triggering when the high-side switch sees fast voltage swings — a common failure mode in motor-drive and inverter half-bridge stages.

Typical rise time is 38 ns, fall time 24 ns — the asymmetric edge speeds are fast enough for switching frequencies up to several hundred kHz, but the slower rise edge sets the practical upper limit. Maximum propagation delay is 210 ns for both low-to-high and high-to-low transitions, and the pulse-width distortion is held to 65 ns max. That symmetry means you can set a fixed dead-time without worrying about one edge arriving later than the other. The output supply range of 10 V to 30 V covers standard gate-drive rails for IGBTs and MOSFETs.
